MIRACLE LEAGUE FIELD

Located in Durham, NC across from the Durham Bulls Baseball Stadium this project is a cooling center and shading pavilion for the Miracle League, which is a group that creates a space for individuals with special needs to have positive experiences through coming together and playing baseball. Looking at the environmental/cooling concept of the project, the idea of architecture being an interface or screen between the natural and manmade environment is an inspiration taken into the final design.

This interface takes the form of overlaid spaces and structures that create intermediate spots of shading and screens. These slat walls are meant to allow environmental factors like wind, light, and rain in but at a reduced level. The concession and bathrooms are accessible from the outside making the interior cooling center area a separate experience of its own. The staggered lengths of the shading pavilion allow for a sense of adventure and fun for the visitors.
